Educational Foundation of America

The Educational Foundation of America (EFA) makes grants to qualifying non-profit organizations that have tax-exempt status and those that are not private foundations as defined in the Internal Revenue Code. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the environment, reproductive freedom, theatre, education, medicine, drug policy reform, democracy, peace & national security issues and human services.

Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation Grants

The Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation seeks to build lasting solutions to the environmental problems of global warming and the loss of open space. The Foundation supports efforts in the Northeast that focus on developing and promoting climate change solutions, and supports nationwide efforts to protect the remaining open spaces. 

Environmental Education Grants

The Grants Program supports environmental education projects that enhance the public’s awareness, knowledge, and skills to help people make informed decisions that affect environmental quality. EPA awards grants each year based on funding appropriated by Congress. Annual funding for the program ranges between $2 and $3 million. More than 75 percent of the grants awarded by this program receive less than $15,000.

Environmental Fund for Pennsylvania

The Environmental Fund for Pennsylvania works to promote charitable giving for environmental protection, conservation efforts and environmental education. Through workplace giving campaigns, the Fund provides a stable source of income to groups working to preserve and protect Pennsylvania's environment.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

The EPA supports projects which design, demonstrate or disseminate environmental education practices, methods, or techniques. The agency plans to award up to $1.25 million in grants that enable teams of college students to research, develop, and design these programs.

Environmental Research and Education Foundation

The Foundation awards several grants each year for research or education in topics pertaining with any aspect of solid waste management. Project topics could deal with any aspect of the following, but are not limited to waste generation rates and composition; waste minimization; collection and transport; sorting, recycling, and remanufacture; disposal options; and more.

Environmental Support Center Training Subsidies

Grassroots environmental organizations or organizations serving low-income minority constituencies that address environmental issues are eligible to apply for training and technical assistance grants on the regional, statewide, and local level. The grants are intended to strengthen the capacity of nonprofit environmental organizations in the areas of fundraising, strategic planning, and organizational development.

EPA Sustainability Grants

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency plans to award up to $1.25 million in grants to teams of college students under the agency's "People, Prosperity and the Planet" competition.

First Energy Mathematics, Science and Technology Education Grants

FirstEnergy's Mathematics, Science and Technology Education grants of up to $500 are available to educators at schools and youth groups in communities served by its electric operating companies and where it has facilities. Any project dealing with mathematics, science and technology will be considered. Completed projects or those previously funded are not eligible.

Fish America Foundation

The FishAmerica Foundation provides funding for hands on-projects at the local level. These projects enhance fish populations, restore fish habitat, improve water quality, and advance fisheries research in North America and Canada—thereby increasing the opportunity for sportfishing success.

Five Star Restoration Challenge Grants

The Five Star Restoration Program brings together students, conservation corps, other youth groups, citizen groups, corporations, landowners and government agencies to provide environmental education and training through projects that restore wetlands and streams. Funding levels are from $5,000 to $20,000, with $10,000 as the average amount awarded per project.

Fuji Film Grants

The program supports nonprofit organizations in areas they operate. Support focus includes education and the environment. Grants are generally limited to one year.

GenCorp Foundation Grants

The GenCorp Foundation extends support to a wide array of programs. Emphasis is given to education; health and human services; civic; and culture and the arts.

Geoscience Education Grant

This grant offers funding for the development of educational strategies in the field, and also emphasizes higher enrollment. It also aims to educate the public about geosciences.

Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, Inc.

The foundations special interest include: ecosystems and habitat preservation, pollution prevention and reduction, biodiversity/species conservation, energy conservation, population issues/family planning, enlightened environmental policy through education and communication.

Global ReLeaf Grant Applications

American Forests is looking for tree-planting projects to be funded by the Global ReLeaf Forests ecosystem restoration program. They are particularly interested in partnering with private and public sector organizations and agencies to plant trees and improve the environment in projects that would otherwise not be feasible. They support projects that plant the right trees in the right places for the right reasons.

Green Communities Charrette Grants

Green Communities offers Charrette Grants for up to $5,000 to assist housing developers with integrating green building systems in their developments and engage in a serious discussion of green design possibilities.

GreenWorks Grants

GreenWorks projects should address an environmental issue and involve students from pre-school to high school in hands-on community action. Some examples of past grant projects include stream clean-up, graffiti paint-over, outdoor classrooms, gardens (butterfly, vegetable), and schoolyard restorations. Funding will allow grants of $500 to $2,000 to be given for wildfire management/education projects.

Home Depot Community Investment Grants

The corporation funds programs in Home Depot communities. While this funding program focuses on rehabilitation and affordable housing it also focuses on environmental programs. Types of support include annual campaigns, employee matching gifts, associate matching gifts, operating budgets, seed money, employee volunteer services, and in-kind gifts.

Huplits Wildlife Grant Competition

Huplits Wildlife Grants are administered by the Sierra Club to help protect wildlife and its habitat in Pennsylvania. Preference will be given to projects that will have the greatest potential impact on the long-term protection or enhancement of wildlife and/or its habitat in Pennsylvania. Projects will normally be funded for no more than two years, but under special circumstances a project may be extended.

John Deere Foundation Grants

The foundation supports programs including education. Types of support include annual campaigns, building construction/renovation, continuing support, fellowships, general operating support, scholarship funds, and seed money grants.
