Informal Phone Interviews with
PCEE Executive Committee Members (Survey 1)

Thirteen members of the PCEE Executive Committee and other designated representatives of the PCEE partner organizations were contacted by phone and asked to participate in a phone interview to express their opinions on the EE professional development needs of PCEE's partner organizations. Eleven of the 13 individuals contacted responded to this request and completed the interview.

Results

The people/positions from within PCEE's partner entities who may most benefit from an "Essentials of EE in Pennsylvania" workshop are:

  • Those without a background in EE whose work involves EE roles (technical people, managers, conservation officers, etc.)
  • Those with a background in EE who could benefit from continuing education or the networking and sharing opportunities the workshop could provide.
  • Those in volunteer roles.

Content that should be considered for the "Essentials" workshop includes:

  • Methods for teaching EE
  • How to teach about environmental issues
  • Information on existing EE resources and program models
  • Ecology
  • Status of and developments in EE in Pennsylvania (standards, EE in schools, networking, etc.)
  • Learning technologies for EE
An "Essentials" workshop would probably be strictly optional for most PCEE partner employees (5 responses), but might be mandatory for some (3 responses). Whether or not it would be optional or mandatory could depend on the content offered (2 responses).

The best incentive for participation in the "Essentials" workshop would be content that met the specific needs of the participants.

Most PCEE partner entities would allow company time for employees to attend an "Essentials" workshop.

Some partners (3 responses) could not dedicate more than one day to attend an "Essentials" workshop, while others (4 responses) said the length would depend on the content.

One central (3 responses) or multiple regional (5 responses) locations would be preferred for the workshop, and it should be offered at more than one time of the year.
