| Question of the Week
National Environmental Education Week is from April 13-19 this year. As part of this week's environmental awareness, students are encouraged to learn about their "carbon footprint." A carbon footprint is defined as the total amount of greenhouse gases produced to directly and indirectly support human activities, and is usually expressed in tons of carbon dioxide (CO2).

In the United States, the average person's carbon footprint is 20.4 tons of CO2 per year. This is an extremely large footprint compared to the worldwide average of 4 tons of CO2 per year. To combat global climate change, some experts believe we must reduce our carbon-producing activities enough to make the world average 2 tons of CO2 per year.
