| Question of the Week
It is estimated that one-third of the food we eat is derived from honeybee pollination. In the fall of 2006, honeybee colonies mysteriously began dying off. Researchers have been examining the potential cause of this phenomenon, known as Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), but have not yet discovered the explanation. However, possible causes include the use of chemical pesticides.

An effective approach to protecting bees from pesticides is to employ Integrated Pest Management (IPM). IPM strategies involve using environmentally friendly practices to manage insects, diseases and weeds. IPM greatly reduces the amount of pesticides used, relying instead on natural methods for controlling pests. Additionally, IPM techniques target specific pests, while being careful not to harm beneficial insects, like honeybees.
