Question of the Week

“ All the fertile areas of this planet have at least once passed through the bodies of earthworms.” -- Charles Darwin

Source: PA Resources Council, Inc.

Earthworms are one of nature's most efficient recyclers. Worm composting or vermicomposting ("vermis" is Latin for "worm.") is an effective way to recycle both food and some paper waste.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, approximately 10% of
the waste stream is food and over 38% of the waste stream is paper. Some of these materials can be removed from the waste stream and reused to feed and provide bedding for worms in a worm bin.

What steps can be part of building and maintaining a vermicomposting system.

Select True (T) or
False (F) for the items listed below:

Feed the worms milk, oil, fat, and eggs.
Use biodegradable materials free from pesticides or chemicals as your bedding for the compost bin.
Make sure the bedding is kept moist.
