During the winter months, polar bears roam the sea ice actively feeding and building up their fat reserves. When the ice melts in summer
the bears move ashore and undergo
a period of fasting.

Warming of the Arctic region is causing
the sea ice to melt earlier each year so
some bearsare not eating
enough food to survive the summer.
