Pennsylvania has two National Wildlife Refuges which are Erie National Wildlife Refuge and John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge.

The goal of the National Wildlife Refuge System is:

"Working with others, to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people."

The National Wildlife Refuge System uses an ecosystem approach for fish and wildlife conservation.
