Pennsylvania is leading the way in farmland preservation with 247,157 acres of prime Pennsylvania farmland preserved in 51 counties across the State.

This includes 2,073 Pennsylvanian farms.

Why should we be concerned about preserving farmland??
As the number of farms and farmers decrease in America, it is important to preserve farmland as a part of our history
Increasing sprawl has created a shortage of food as the amount of farmland is divided into smaller portions
Numerous threatened and endangered species depend on farms for shelter and food. Protecting farms ensures habitat for these species.
Only a small fraction of the earth's land is suited for productive agriculture. Thus, it is important that we preserve our existing prime farmland.
