Position Title: Coordinator, A Head Start on Science

Position Type: Full Time temporary

Position Location: Philadelphia, PA

Description: There are three main objectives for A Head Start on Science:
-Teachers will learn to incorporate a "hands on" model of teaching science across the curriculum in Head Start programs, by participating in interactive professional development workshops.
-Students will be introduced to the Pennsylvania Early Childhood standards ensuring that science is fun, accessible, and relevant to their daily lives.
-Parents/Guardians will understand the relevance and value of science education to their families’ lives.

Organization: Academy of Natural Sciences

Duties:
Work with Manager of School Programs and Please Touch Museum staff to develop and evaluate teacher professional development, student lessons and family programs for A Head Start on Science program.
Teach workshops (teacher and family) and provide direct student instruction to Head Start programs.
Mentor Head Start teachers and staff.
Ensure ongoing evaluation of program is used to implement incremental changes ensuring outcomes of program are being met.
Ensure all grant requirements for program are being met.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or related field.
Experience in teaching science in a formal or informal setting.
Experience developing programs and knowledge of the principles of inquiry-based education.
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Valid driver’s license and 3 year clean driving record required.
Must pass PA Child Abuse Clearance and Criminal Background checks.


Salary: commensurate with experience
