13 Whats Out There? The goal of environmental education is to develop a world population that is aware of the environment
and its associated problems, and which has the knowledge, skills, attitudes, motivations and commitment
to work toward solutions of current problems and the prevention of new ones (Volk & McBeth, 1997). A
plethora of EE materials and information are available to instructors to aid in the achievement of this goal.
However, the sheer quantity of material can be overwhelming. To help you get started in finding and
choosing appropriate EE materials, a number of national and state EE resources as examples of the wide
variety of materials available are presented. As you read them, keep in mind that this list is not exhaustive,
and the PCEE does not endorse any materials. Additional examples of EE resources can be found in
Appendix II. These materials should provide a springboard for further exploration.
