Organization: Tyler Arboretum

Position Title: Head Gardener

Position Type:  Full-time

Description: 

Tyler Arboretum, a historic arboretum with 100 acres of horticultural collections and 550 acres of natural areas, has a job opening for a full-time Head Gardener. This position is responsible for collections development and planning, maintenance of the woody and herbaceous plant collections and turf areas, mapping and labeling of plant collections, and preparing reports and presentations for Arboretum publications. This position provides design support and makes plant selections for the Arboretum's garden elements and master plan, as well has assist in the maintenance of natural areas and our extensive trail system.


Qualifications:

A minimum of a B. S. or equivalent training in horticulture or a closely related field with at least 3-5 years hands on experience. Must be team oriented with excellent interpersonal skills and experienced in the supervision of volunteers and seasonal interns. Familiarity with Microsoft Office and ArcView G.I.S. software a plus. Must possess, or be able to obtain and maintain a valid PA Drivers License and a PA Pesticide Applicators License. Must be available to work weekends on a rotating basis and to provide support as needed for several arboretum events annually.

Salary:

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience; benefits include a generous health/dental plan as well as a 401(k) plan.
