Position Title: Program Specialist
Position Location: Greensburg, PA
Description:
PA CleanWays is a statewide non profit organization whose mission is to empower
people to eliminate illegal dumping and littering in Pennsylvania. PA CleanWays
programs include:
• Illegal dump and littered road cleanups.
• Adoptions that allow for the long-term care and maintenance of areas (non-state
maintained roads, waterways, trails, parks, etc.) affected by illegal dumping and
littering.
• Special collections for hard-to-dispose items such as appliances, tires, and
household hazardous waste.
• Education about the effects of improper waste disposal on our land and water,
recycling, waste reduction and reuse.
• Beautification of areas to reduce illegal dumping and littering.
• Illegal Dump Surveys that assess and document the illegal dumping problem on a
county by county basis.
PA CleanWays has an immediate opening for a Program Specialist position. Program
Specialists ensure the quality of all PACW programs, events, and activities. Specifically,
this position will be responsible for coordinating illegal dump cleanups.
Program Specialists are accountable for producing program and project reports, user
reports as they relate to specific programs and are responsible for maintaining safety
records for applicable programming. Program Specialists report directly to the Director
of Programs on a project basis. This position is paid an hourly rate of $11.50-14.00/hr
with a competitive benefits package.
This is not a supervisory position. This position requires extensive weekend travel and
work outside in inclement weather during the spring and fall seasons. This position is
grant funded and will end when the funding ceases. This position is currently not funded
for more than one year.
Primary Responsibilities include:
• Coordination of illegal dump cleanups, a multi step process working with
volunteers, donors, and state agency representatives.
• Organize and implement a variety of education and environmental programs,
events, and activities that empower people to eliminate illegal dumping and
littering throughout the state.
• Solicit in-kind donations for support of programs, events, and activities.
• Recruit and coordinate volunteers to achieve programming results.
• Oversee external contractors and vendors.
• Provide technical assistance to constituents as needed.
• Maintain a conscious commitment to safety in all PACW programs, events, and
activities.
• Facilitate constituent relationships relative to all programs, events and activities.
Secondary Responsibilities include:
• Represent PACW at major conferences.
• Lead and participate on project teams.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Strength and ability to lift, carry, and transport equipment and materials in excess
of 40 lbs over a variety of terrain frequently.
• Demonstrate the use of tools such as rakes, hoes and shovels, and willingness
to work outside in inclement weather.
• Willingness to travel throughout the state and work unusual hours and days as
required.
• The ability to organize and manage projects, budgets, and reports.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• The ability to market PA CleanWays.
• The ability to facilitate work in a team environment.
• The ability to incorporate PA CleanWays mission into all aspects of projects,
programs and activities.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel, as well as
Access Software.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent public presentation/speaking skills.
Requirements:
Applicant should possess:
• Bachelor’s degree preferred, with an environmental or science background
• 2-5 years community organizing experience with environmental focus.
• Experience with proper waste disposal, recycling, and or handling of hazardous
waste preferred.
