Pennsylvania Game Commission's Seedlings for Schools

Seedlings for Habitat
Primarily for upper elementary through high school, PA Game Commission provide seedlings for teachers and students interested in planting a variety of seedlings on school or community grounds to improve habitat, plant along a stream, develop a tree nursery, or create an environmental area.

Choose a program and order seedlings from Feb. 1 to April 30. 2008.

Outdoor Heritage Month in the Alleghenies

On Monday, March 10th, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives unanimously passed House Resolution No. 626 declaring April 2008
Outdoor Heritage Month in the Pennsylvania Alleghenies. This declaration encourages all Pennsylvanians to participate in education and service activities occurring in Pennsylvania’s Alleghenies.

DCNR Has Nearly $50 Million Available for Recreation, Conservation Grants     
     
The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources this week announced it has $50 million in grants available to communities and non-profit organizations to help fund community recreation, open space, land trust, rails-to-trails, rivers, and conservation projects under the Community Conservation Partnership Program.

Stony Kiski Conemaugh River Sojourn

A Pennsylvania River Sojourn is an educational adventure on a river to promote camaraderie, appreciation for the waterway and its wildlife, and a desire to protect this valuable resource.  Whether you’re looking for one day or one week, a calm lake or a Class III river, a Sojourn awaits you!

The Stony-Kiski-Conemaugh Sojourn is generally scheduled for the first weekend in June and features paddles through Packsaddle Gap, whitewater on the Stonycreek River and stops in or near Johnstown, Blairsville, and Saltsburg.

PEEC Receives $30k From The Dodge Foundation

Lehman Township, PA - The Pocono Environmental Education Center (P.E.E.C.) in Dingmans Ferry, PA received a $30,000 grant from the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation. These funds support a year-round integration of environmental and ecology studies with partner schools.

During this year-round program, students and teachers will have the opportunity to attend a 5-day Summer Science residential camp at PEEC. The PEEC staff also provide outreach programs for students and training sessions for teachers throughout the school year.
